Dark Youth – Photographic Documents of CyberGoth Youth, 1996-2001 (2021) is a photographic volume curated by Ragazzi di Strada, investigating the Italian Cyber and Goth scene at the turn of the millennium as seen through the previously unpublished personal archive and memories of original scene member Albert Hofer (Le Cannibale).

Limited to 66 copies and unfolding across 92-pages, the publication is an immersion into the day-to-day life of the scene’s initiates, in a journey across 1990s Italy, starting from Florence and culminating in London and in Germany.

The fact that these photographs weren’t shot by Albert for commercial purposes but for own documentary and archiving aims, means that they are candid and precious documents permeated by the youthful joie-de-vivre and angst characterising young rebels.

The volume is divided into six chapters touching, through memories and anecdotes penned by Hofer, upon some of the most relevant themes of the Italian Dark scene of the times including music, fashion, subcultural dynamics, politics, sexuality and self-discovery.
